Helen Keller (Week 6)

  1. I knew of Helen Keller and the difficulties she overcame to be a successful woman. However, I had no idea how much care and humanity she forwarded to the U.S. Veterans in supporting them through their disabilities they suffered during war. I am a great supporter of our troops and I admire Ms Keller even that much more.

  2. I really have never heard of Helen Keller until recently, watching this clip it amazes me how someone who is blind and deaf can become so influencel to our country. I really admire her struggle and how she still lived and loved life like their was nothing to it.

  3. I remember watching a film about Helen Keller. What struck me most from the movie was the struggle Helen went through as a child. It was crazy watching as she struggled to communicate with those around her. Thats what I always remembered about Helen Keller. Her struggle. However, even in school (middle school/early high school)basically breezed by Helen Keller. Its horrible that all I knew of Helen Keller was that she fought for equality for disabled people. I am happy that I was able to see how much Helen Keller did for people of all races and for those who were disabled or looked over in society. I wish I had known more about Helen Keller. She was an amazing woman.

  4. Let me just start by saying WOW! She is absolutely someone who should be idolized, and is for many different reasons. Watching this video showed me in a different way how amazing and how strong of a person she was! I couldnt even imagine not having my sight or hearing. I aplaude her, and absolutely have a new found respect for her.

The fact that she was extensively disabled, yet managed to live such a rich and full existence is amazing. She would be considered commendable just as a regular, functional human being, but she even took it a step further, advocating for causes that she believed in and receiving a college education.

However, Helen Keller wouldn't have been the Helen Keller we know today without the intervention of Anne Sullivan. I imagine that it must have been extremely difficult, not to mention frustrating, to teach someone who had so many handicaps. For that, I commend Anne Sullivan for her role in educating Keller.

  6. I never knew who Hellen Keller was until I just saw this clip. Her work is completely inspiring. I can only imagine the change she brought into the lives of those wounded from WWII. As a disabled person, she definitely symbolizes the potential and capability that everyone has to fight for what they truly believe in. She's an example of the many women who dedicated their lives for something that was truly significant to themselves and to the entire society.
